It’s nearly been 11 years since you operated on me and gave me back my hearing.
I just wanted to say a big thank you. It’s not an understatement to say that the operation gave me my life back. Even after 11 years, I still can’t believe how well these implants work. We are very lucky in this country to have the NHS and such skilled surgeons as yourself, so thanks once again!

Please accept these token gifts as a big thank you for all you have done over the past 18 months. I was originally told by my local ENT Consultant that I was probably too old for a cochlear implant. Thankfully, you had a different view. I cannot put into words the difference the implant has made to my whole life.

How my experience with the cochlear implant has been after switch on

Before my cochlear implant I struggled with group conversations because I missed out a lot and used to say what a lot and my friends used to get a bit frustrated.
I used to avoid the canteen because it was a lot of background noise and I got overwhelmed.
I struggled in group settings because I used to miss out on information so things had to be repeated to me a lot.
I could never tell where people were shouting me from.
I was switched on October 15 th .
At the start there was sounds in line with parts of voices that were like beeps
I was able to wear it all day after a couple days.
Over time I was able to distinguish voices with help of Bluetooth streaming and real life listening.
My daily life has improved with the implant because now do not need to use my edumic I am able to hold conversations in groups a lot better than before and I am a lot better in busy places but still struggle every now and then.
I started not needing to use my edumic as much in December and then after a few weeks I didn’t need it at all.
Big groups got easier and my mum saw at a Christmas party that I was able to talk across a room.
I can hear better in group work in school without my edumic.
I can hear in a canteen which I used to avoid because there was too much background noise.
I have now gotten better at knowing where people are shouting me from.
Now the cochlear implant feels like a regular part of my life in a sense I put it on every day with my hearing aid.
